Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata missing second consecutive E3

Nintendo has confirmed with IGN today that Nintendo President Satoru Iwata will miss his second E3 in a row.

“Nintendo’s focus for E3 this year will be showcasing the many games we have coming for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS,” the company said in a statement. “Mr. Miyamoto and other members of our development team will be in Los Angeles to explain these games and the unique experiences that each offers. Mr. Iwata’s focus in this period will be on other areas of our business that require his presence in Japan.”

Nintendo asserted that Iwata will be in “constant contact” with the staff working in Los Angeles over E3.

It’s expected that Nintendo of America head Reggie Fils-Aime will run the show — after all, his body is ready.

Iwata missed last year’s E3 due to health complications.
