Prey: How to get the powerful Q-Beam weapon (and two upgrade kits)

Prey is available today, and Stevivor’s latest guide will show you how to obtain its powerful Q-Beam weapon.

“The TS-QPB-S11 Quasiparticle Beam is a prototype directed energy weapon,” its in-game description reads. “A stream of volatile quasiparticles causes rapidly cascading excitations in energetic systems of matter to the point of rupture.”

“The Q-Beam fires a concentrated beam of unstable particles that will eventually cause a target to explode,” a tooltip reads when you first equip the weapon.

Here’s how you get it.

  • You’ll need to progress into the story until the point you can exit the space station and maneuver in zero-G outside the station itself.
  • Ignore your main quest and instead fly around the station’s exterior looking for green dots. They’re either airlocks or the locations of human corpses. We’re looking for one corpse in particular near a spot that says Talos 1 – Maintenance Access.

  • That’s where the body of Mariana Arias lies. It’s a bit tricky to find — it’s out near the Shuttle Bay and a large blue TranStar sign. The body itself is tucked away inside a narrow corridor labelled as Maintenance Access; be careful not to move too fast or you’ll take damage when you bounce off an object.

  • Mariana holds the Q-Beam weapon alongside two weapon upgrade kits. Not a bad haul, eh?

There’s no map of the outside of the station, so it’s hard to pinpoint an exact location. Thankfully, we took a video of the situation; it may help.

Regardless, all the corpses hold a bunch of useful gear, so it’s best to explore the area in full anyway.

Prey is available now on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4.
