Vivendi begins takeover of Gameloft; Ubisoft looks to be next

Bloomberg reports that media giant Vivendi has secured the support of Gameloft’s majority shareholders, allowing it to begin takeover proceedings.

Vivendi owns 30% of the mobile game developer and is on track to receive further stock offers to allow what Bloomberg terms as a “hostile bid”.

The founders of Gameloft, the Guillemot family, is also behind major publisher Ubisoft. Vivendi began to make a push to control Ubisoft back in October, acquiring shares in a tactic similar to the one employed with Gameloft. The Guillemot family responded in kind, taking to Montreal, Canada in an effort to win over shareholder support.
