[Update] XCOM 2 is coming to eradicate the alien threat, and your free time

Firaxis Games and 2K today announced a sequel to turn based strategy hit XCOM: Enemy Unknown, titled simply XCOM 2. Currently only coming to PC, XCOM 2 is set 20 years in an alternate future from the ending of Enemy Unknown, where the alien threat was victorious and have shaped Earth and humanity to their vision. XCOM 2 is scheduled for release in November 2015. UPDATE: You can now check out the trailer below:

The XCOM organisation will now be playing the role of invader rather than defender, offering some interesting twists on series formula. A mobile base must be managed and expanded and resources will be even more scarce than the stingy original game. On the gameplay side maps will be procedurally generated, new classes of soldier will be introduced, customistation of both your troops and the game, through modding tools, is provided and of course there will be a whole new set of enemies to face. Oh, and swords. As somebody who has sunk more hours than is possibly healthy into XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within, this is both a dangerous and thrilling announcement.

A new XCOM game was rumoured heavily through the Advent site broken down a few days ago. We’ll be hearing more about the game over the coming month and undoubtedly at E3. You can check out screenshots and more over at the official XCOM 2 site.
