Xbox One X: Microsoft promises a streamlined UI for its powerful console

Microsoft has promised a streamlined UI for the Xbox One X, prioritised for performance.

Speaking with VG24/7, Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra acknowledged that UI performance as a key consideration in the development of the powerful, true 4K-capable console.

“We’ve thought about this. We said… wow, when we come out with X we’ll have so much more power, so much more RAM. What do we want to do? What I told the team is, we don’t want to do anything. Because of exactly the point you’re making,” Ybarra said.

The original Xbox One was criticised for slow, cluttered UI design. Since its original release, the Xbox One UI has been redesigned several times to correct this. A new iteration of the console’s UI is available to select Insiders now and is planned for full release later in the year.

“I think everybody recognizes that when we launched Xbox One X… Phil [Spencer] and I have talked about this, we had a lot of just general improvement to do in terms of the UI and the responsiveness of the UI,” Ybarra continued. “I feel great about where we’ve come today, but we designed this UI to be across the whole family and to only use a static amount of system resources so that even on S and the original Xbox One it runs absolutely great.”

The Xbox One X is available in November of this year.
