Xbox One X: Microsoft details its powerhouse of a console

Microsoft used its E3 press conference to fully detail the Xbox One X, formerly known as Project Scorpio.

Here’s what we’ve gleaned from the conference so far:

  • The Xbox One X is the smallest Xbox currently available — neat!
  • It sports a 1TB HDD.
  • Of course it provides true 4K gameplay; Microsoft’s been touting that for months now.
  • It uses liquid vapour cooling, like servers or high-end PCs.
  • It supports Dolby Atmos, provides 8+million colours in HDR,
  • All existing Xbox One games and peripherals will be compatible; existing Xbox One games will benefit from isotropic filtering, faster load times and more.
  • It will supersample on 1080p televisions, meaning existing games will look better regardless of setup.
  • The Xbox One X supports 4K UHD Blu-ray playback.
  • Microsoft has developed a unique power distribution mode for the console.

Microsoft used two terms to describe 4K gaming during the press conference — “true 4K” and “ultra 4K HD” — we’re looking into the difference now. (Update: That’s potentially been explained, and quite technically, here. Thanks to Bruce M. for that!)

There’s more to come, but that’s all we grabbed from the barrage of info for now. Of course, this is in addition to the specs detailed at the Scorpio’s initial tease.

What are you most excited about when it comes to the Xbox One X?
