Twitch has announced that it will be introducing reduced stream lag for all streamers via a toggle which will reduce the lag by up to 33%.
In 2013 Twitch introduced a delay on streams to improve quality and buffering, however many streamers who rely on audience participation struggled as comments and feedback was out of sync with what was being streamed.
The option to reduce the delay does come at a price and Twitch warns that “Some viewers may experience changes in playback, with shorter, more frequent buffering times. Because less video is queued on a viewer’s computer, they will be more susceptible to variations in download bandwidth, and may experience more interruptions in service while video buffers.”
