The FBI, IGDA partner to create an online tool to manage industry harassment

A report by Polygon asserts that tHe FBI is working with the US branch of the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) to try to curb online harassment.

IGDA is currently creating a tool on its website to help industry members manage harassment and abuse.

“I had a meeting with the FBI in July regarding harassment,” IGDA Executive Director, Kate Edwards, said. “They themselves monitor this activity, but they’re focused more on cybercrime issues like hacking and very malicious harassment.”

“We wanted to let Ms. Edwards know the FBI’s capability,” added Emily Yeh, an FBI spokesperson.

The news comes as harassment seems to have escalated in the industry; Sony Online Entertainment’s John Smedley had a bomb threat called into the plane he was travelling aboard, and Feminist Frequency’s Anita Sarkeesian claims to be be on the receiving end of death threats.
