Star Wars: Battlefront 2: All we know about its multiplayer

Star Wars: Battlefront 2‘s multiplayer has been revamped since the original title, DICE and Criterion today detailed.

Here’s all we know about changes to Battlefront 2‘s multiplayer:

  • Multiplayer will feature all Star Wars eras, including Clone Wars, the original and prequel films and The Force Awakens
  • Criterion’s Matt Webster would not confirm if new vehicles seen in The Last Jedi will appear in-game.
  • Just as in single-player, customisable droids will feature. Players will be able to customise the drones based on their play styles.
  • DICE’s Bernd Diemer said that in-game heroes have been made “much more physical”. Heroes will have more depth; they’ll have a career path of sorts, allowing for unlocks earned through gameplay.

  • Heroes will no longer obtained through power-ups; a resource-based system will replace this, though DICE didn’t go into much detail in regards to the new system. Diemer did say that that “by doing things,” you’ll unlock the ability to turn into a hero or a hero vehicle — or something else, he teased.
  • While Battlefront 2 will feature all eras, grunts like Stormtroopers will be restricted to their own time period. That means droid armies will only feature during the Clone Wars era, as an example. “You will look true to the fiction of the location that you are in,” Diemer said.
  • Troopers should team up to take on heroes, Diemer added. “Maybe, just maybe you’ll have a chance of standing up against Darth Maul,” he said, adding Trooper progression will also make this easier.

  • Stevivor was told that certain modes will support up to 40 players.
  • Troopers will also be classed-based this time around.
  • Hero Ships return — Slave 1, the Millennium Falcon were examples. They’ll have the same depth “and personality” that heroes have, said Diemer.
  • Most importantly, developer Criterion confirmed space battles will feature in the game. Criterion was responsible for the land speeder portion of Star Wars: Battlefront, as well as the game’s add-on X-Wing Mission VR experience.

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 heads to Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4 on 17 November 2017.
