Square Enix has realised the value of fan feedback, making Final Fantasy XV a better game

The Active Time Report from Square Enix has become a very useful source of honest information on the development of various Final Fantasy games, with the latest giving Final Fantasy XV game director Hajime Tabata and Marketing Division Manager Akio Ofuji a chance to talk about how Square Enix are taking on board feedback from fans.

The quotable quote from Ofuji is that their team is “starting to operate like an MMO.”, in the context of making adjustments based on fan feedback and using patches or in this case, the Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae demo, to improve their end products. An update to Episode Duscae is the result of this, adding further gameplay features and tightening up some mechanics.

Capcom appear to be taking a similar approach, this may be a revolution for Japanese developers that could see them return to the glory years of the early console generations. Taking on board fan feedback sounds like an obvious move but too often in game development, especially with Final Fantasy games, we are given what the developer wants with little regard to what gamers themselves appreciate.
