Sony’s Xperia Z3 launching in Australia, supports PS4 Remote Play

Sony announced today that its new Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 compact — 5.2″ and 4.6″ form factor respectively — will be heading to Australia in the near future.

Both models support PS4 Remote Play with the added benefit of using the DualShock 4 rather than touch screen controls. By connecting the Xperia to the DualShock 4 via the Game Control Mount and connecting to the console via Wi-Fi, players will be able to continue to play PlayStation 4 when their television is otherwise unavailable.

The only other device to allow PS4 Remote Play is the PS Vita. The Xperia Z3 may actually be a better option than the Vita as the full range of buttons are available rather than the makeshift touchscreen controls of the handheld.

The Xperia Z3 is a slim 7.3mm aluminium encased smartphone available in white, black, copper and silver green. The Xperia Z3 Compact is slightly wider at 8.6mm, but has been designed for single-handed use. Powered by the “Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor6 with 2.5 GHz quad-core CPU” the Xperia Z3 also includes a 4G LTE modem.

According to Sony users will get two days of use between charges with the potential for even longer periods of time thanks to Stamina Mode. Stamina Mode turns off background functions in order to save power.

The phone also boasts a 20.7MP camera which records video in 4K. Sony claims its 100% waterproof even going so far as to say “you can take your Xperia Z3 or Xperia Z3 Compact with you wherever you go – whether you’re answering a call in the rain or taking pictures in the pool.” Anyone game?

Sony has yet to reveal a price or release date, but has announced that pricing and availability in Australia will be revealed closer to release.
