Sony confirms PS2 emulation on PS4

After hours of speculation, Sony has confirmed that the PS4 is capable of PS2 emulation. Moreover, the publisher says the technology will be used to bring classic games to the current-gen console.

“We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation,” a representative for Sony Computer Entertainment of America said to Polygon late last week.

The emulation is currently being used on classic Star Wars titles including Racer Revenge, Jedi Starfighter and Bounty Hunter.

In October, Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida said the publisher wasn’t looking to bring PS3 games to PS4 via backwards compatibility — that’s what PlayStation Now is for, after all.
