Sony has announced today that the PlayStation 4 has sold more than 5.3 million units worldwide as of 8 February 2014.
The PlayStation 4 was released in North America on 15 November 2013 and across Europe, Australia and New Zealand on 29 November 2013. Sales have been strong in Australia with PS4 pre-orders sold out well in advance of the launch date. Since then the PlayStation 4 has managed to sell 1 million units in its first 24 hours on sale in North America, sell 2.1 million units by 1 December, sell 4.2 million units by 28 December and became the number one selling next-gen console in Australia this month.
The PlayStation 4 is still yet to launch in Sony’s native Japan, but will do so this weekend, 22 February.
