Screencheat will start ruining friendships late October

Australian developers Samurai Punk have announced their 90’s inspired shooter Screencheat will be released 21 October on Steam (their press release says 23 October and Steam says 21 October… so we’re using the Steam date here).

Screencheat is a multiplayer shooter where every player is invisible, forcing you to rely on the viewpoints of the other players to determine their location. Anybody old enough to remember Goldeneye and Halo multiplayer games will know both how despised the screencheater was, and how irresistible the temptation was to take a glance yourself. Samurai Punk developed on this concept for the Global Gam Jam 2014 and after a productive beta period are ready to unleash Screencheat upon the world.

While focused on split screen multiplayer, the game can be played online as well as locally, with other players viewpoints still present in online games. Screencheat will cost $14.99 USD, with a pre-order discount bringing it down to $9.89 USD. As a big local multiplayer guy I can’t wait.

Update: The game’s 21 October release date has now been confirmed.
