Sony is reportedly preparing to stop the manufacture of the PS3 in Japan quite soon.
While Sony has yet to make an official announcement on the matter, the PlayStation Store page for the 500GB PS3 (via Gematsu) — the only model still in production — states that “shipments are scheduled to end soon.”
Japanese retailers suggest production will cease this month.

The sentiment is being echoed by analyst Daniel Ahmad.

The PS3 was released in November 2006; Sony promised to support it for ten years, so it has easily kept its word.
