Microsoft refused to sell off Lionhead Studios to keep Fable IP

Kotaku UK today reports that multiple buyers were ready and willing to purchase Lionhead Studios — and the Fable IP — from Microsoft, but the publisher ultimately refused.

Turns out, Microsoft wasn’t willing to lose the Fable IP, causing most of the potential buyers to back down.

“90% of the people interested just walked away,” when they couldn’t get the Fable IP as a package deal, one of multiple sources told Kotaku.

The sources furthered that some buyers were offering Microsoft hundreds of millions of dollars for the acquisition.

Microsoft officially closed Lionhead Studios earlier in the monthFable Legends was cancelled back in March.
