Rich Gang banned from the League of Legends Oceanic Pro League

Oceanic League of Legends team Rich Gang has been banned from the the Oceanic Pro League this afternoon after a string of “lewd, racist, abusive and otherwise indecent content” originated from their social media accounts. This comes on top of bans for several of their players for, among other things, being abusive and toxic to other members of the community.

The most recent ban was leveled at ‘Rich Homie Dre’, the top laner of Rich Gang. He was originally handed a 7 week suspension by Riot Games for his behaviour but his reaction to the ban caused Riot to increase the ban from 7 weeks to 2 years, barring him from any Oceanic competition until after 31 December 2016.

Here’s what Riot had to say about the Rich Gang ban:
“Effective immediately, the team known as Rich Gang will be removed from the Oceanic Pro
League. Any previous player suspensions will remain in effect for the entirety of the described term outlined in the corresponding rulings. The organisation (including the individual owner) of Rich Gang is indefinitely prohibited from owning another team in the OPL. Any team members and/or team affiliates who are not currently serving a suspension will be free to join other teams.

Any remaining games to be played by Rich Gang will result in an automatic forfeit, and a point awarded to their scheduled opponent. For the second split, their place in the OPL will be automatically awarded to the first-place team of the current Oceanic Challenger Series tournament.”

It’s been a rough week for the Oceanic Pro League, with the behaviour of a few casting a shadow over many. It’s important to focus on the positives of the scene rather than dwell on the negativity this has caused.
