Resistance trilogy servers being shut down this week

This week sees the official end of online multiplayer support for the Resistance trilogy of games with Sony shutting down the servers 8 April (North American time).

The Twitter account of Insomniac Games — developer of the trilogy — tweeted that members of the Resistance team would be online during the last few days and encouraged fans to get online and play together.

When asked by a fan why the servers were being shut down, the Insomniac Twitter account replied that the call was Sony’s as they maintain online infrastructure.

Sony announced the closure of online support for a number of games in December last year including Resistance, Gran Turismo 5, MAG, SOCOM: Special Forces and SOCOM: Confrontation. Neither MAG nor SOCOM: Confrontation feature any form of offline mode, so those two games are now essentially unplayable.

Resistance: Fall of Man was a launch title for the PlayStation 3 and spawned two sequels which released 2008 and 2011 respectively.
