Neversoft absorbed into Infinity Ward [UPDATE]

According to an internal Activision memo obtained by Giant Bomb, Neversoft and Infinity Ward are merging. The memo allegedly written by Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg reveals that the Neversoft name will be retired as Infinity Ward is the “sensible choice” given their relationship and association with Activision and Call of Duty.

The newly merged studio will be headed up by Dave Stohl, Executive VP of Activision Worldwide Studios while Infinity Ward’s current studio head, Steve Ackrich, “will remain at [Infinity Ward] in a leadership role.”

Neversoft are most well known for developing the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series of games and the Guitar Hero franchise from Guitar Hero III onwards. Neversoft’s Studio Head Joel Jewett and Studio Director Scott Pease “have made the difficult decision to retire” from the industry.

Neversoft had collaborated with Infinity Ward on Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Update: It’s official!
