Razer launches “Paid to Play” initiative using its Razer Cortex launcher

Razer today launched an initiative called “Paid to Play”, in which players using the Razer Cortex launcher will earn points for playing PC titles like Overwatch, Counter-Strike: Global OffensiveDOTA 2, Paladins and League of Legends.

Points are earned by launching any of the games above in the Razer Cortex, a free software launcher that “gives gamers a wide array of PC performance toold, and search tools for game deals,” Razer today advised.

The points, called zSilver, normally amass at a rate of 3 per minute, but will be upped to 6 per minute in the first two weeks of the program. Daily zSilver amounts are capped at 900 per day, or 5 full hours a day at normal accrual. Points can be used to purchase “Razer products, discount vouchers and exclusive swag”, Razer said, though there are plans to include “coffee, movie tickets and more” down the line.

A Razer mug holder, not available at retail, costs 100,000 zSilver — that equates to 112 fully-capped days of play. A zSilver Rewards catalogue lists other offers.

“The concept of everyday gamers getting paid to play has never been done before,” says Min-Liang Tan, Razer’s CEO. “Gamers may reap the benefits of a rewards system simply by doing things they’re already doing.”

“The world of gaming is the ultimate even playing field, representing every kind of person in the world. We are excited about helping good people to get Razer products wherever they are, whatever their situations, and regardless of what game their playing, as long as they are gamers.”
