PewDiePie promises to go “family friendly” on YouTube; launches weekly Twitch stream

PewDiePie has complained of decreasing profits, vowing to make his YouTube channel “family friendly” whilst also launching a weekly Twitch stream.

The popular broadcaster is cleaning up his act in the wake of YouTube’s new advertisement policy; a number of major advertisers have recently pulled ads after finding out they’d air before videos featuring racist or sexist content. PewDiePie himself was criticised two months ago for anti-Semitic content.

PewDiePie took to new video to complain he’s lost monetisation on a third of his videos.

“[There will be] no more swearing, no more sexual jokes and definitely no more Hitler jokes,” he said.

“I wish I was joking, I’m not. It seems that YouTube has made some changes and about a third of my videos have become demonetised. I’m going to have [to be] family friendly from now on so I don’t go homeless.”

Saying it’s unrelated to his YouTube problems, PewDiePie has also launched a weekly Twitch show called Best Club, airing at 1.00 am AEST each Monday. Twitch itself pays streamers through direct contributions (or game purchases) rather than through ads.
