Payday 2 players are boarding the Hype Train this month as Overkill Software announces a new community DLC drive.
For the duration of the event players can buy two separate DLCs which contribute “Hype Fuel” to a community total. Along the way goals will unlock adding more and more content into the main game.
The first DLC is called the Overkill Pack and unlocks the Minigun with attachments and an RPG to use in game, a new mask and a host of new achievements. It’s available for $4.99 USD.
The second DLC is the Completely Overkill Pack and gives access to four limited edition masks and a special secret reward that is yet to be announced. This can be purchased for $19.99 USD.
If you want all the goodies then you’ll have to thrown down the full $24.98 USD as these two packs are exclusive from each other. The Hype Train event is set to run for 30 more days and has already burned through the first two goals, unlocking a new enemy and an in game side job feature.
$25 USD seems a bit steep for the DLC offered here, especially considering most of the goals will be available to the whole community and not just those who purchase the packs. Avid collectors will be sure to pay up the full amount though, and most likely already have.
Considering that Payday 2 is a 2 year old game that still maintains a large fanbase — on PC at least — one could assume there’ll be no problem meeting the final goal.
