Overwatch: McCree to be nerfed, D.Va to function more like a tank, more

Overwatch developers have taken to the game’s forums to begin to talk of tweaks that will soon be made to the popular shooter.

Principal Designer Geoff Goodman had conceded that offensive character McCree is just a little too overpowered.

“[The flashbang, hammer fan combo is] probably a bit too good at dealing damage to higher health targets such as Tanks and barriers,” Goodman said. “I don’t have any concrete changes yet, but I’m going to be testing some things internally to see how he plays.”

Goodman added that the hammer fan move is likely to be tweaked, rather than the flashbang move.

The developer also said that D.Va seems a little too underpowered.

“I do think there is some room for some D.Va improvements,” he said. “But these are unlikely to take the shape of increasing her damage output significantly.

“The goal is that she should be a viable aggressive initiation tank, much like Winston can be right now, rather than some sort of beefy flying assassin. So any changes will likely be helping her in that direction.”

Goodman mustn’t be playing against teams with three D.Vas in the squad. There, you’ll constantly have to avoid exploding mechs. But we digress…

Game Director Jeff Kaplan also added a fix has already been completed internally and will launch in mid-June.

“Our VFX lead, Nick, made a change so that allied Reapers will have blue coloring to their effects,” Kaplan said. “It actually looks really cool – it’s an overall improvement.”

Overwatch is currently available on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4. What balancing changes would you like to see in-game?
