Overwatch: D.Va gains new ability, has Defense Matrix nerfed

Overwatch‘s D.Va will soon see big changes in the form of a new ability and major nerf, Blizzard today announced.

The news comes from Geoff Goodman, Principal Designer, who took to the game’s forums to share the news.

D.Va’s Defense Matrix will be nerfed in the near future, requiring twice as much energy to activate and reducing shield duration by 50%.

It’s not all bad — the hero will also be able to fire her Fusion Cannons in mid-flight.

Most importantly, D.Va will gain an ability called Micro Missiles, allowing her to fire a small cluster of missiles, similar to those of Soldier 76.

“The combination of these changes allow her to play more aggressively and deal more damage, at the cost of being able to Defense Matrix as often as before,” Goodman said. “Defense Matrix still remains an extremely powerful tool when timed correctly, but the reduced uptime means D.Va won’t be able to use it nearly as often overall.

“We want to nerf Defense Matrix as an ability, not D.Va as a hero,” Goodman summarised.

D.Va’s changes are being tested internally at Blizzard and should hit the PC’s PTR soon.

Overwatch is currently available on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4.
