Obsidian: KOTOR 3 “comes up every three to six months”

Developer of Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords Obsidian has revealed that the idea of KOTOR 3 “comes up every three to six months.”

Speaking with IGN, Josh Sawyer and Brandon Adler — Lead Designer and Lead Producer on the upcoming Pillars of Eternity respectively — said that the team is made up of huge Star Wars fans who often get together to brainstorm KOTOR 3.

“I think there are a lot of the people at the studio that would like to do Knights of the Old Republic 3,” Sawyer says. “I think at that time LucasArts was really focused on what they considered to be extreme, extreme blockbusters.  Having said that, a lot of time has passed. I know there are a lot of people at the studio who are really interested in doing a project like that.”

Adler added, “We bring it up and talk about it. Not anything terribly serious, but we just say ‘wouldn’t it be cool if?’ and just develop some ideas for what we’d do with that stuff.”

It came to light last year that Obsidian had pitched a Star Wars game to Disney set between Episode III and Episode IV. Sawyer and Adler admitted that they hadn’t heard anything about the game, but explained that it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for CEO Fergus Urquhart to reach out in an attempt to strike deals on his own. For now it’s all quiet on the KOTOR 3 front, but if the studio is considering it we may eventually see the sequel.
