Nintendo TVii cancelled in Europe

The Nintendo TVii service has been officially cancelled in Europe before it was even released, Nintendo has announced.

Launching in North America shortly after the release of the Wii U in the region, TVii was scheduled and delayed on multiple occasions for Europe. On Nintendo of Europe’s website the announcement states that the cancellation is “Due to the extremely complex nature of localising multiple television services across a diverse range of countries with varied licensing systems.”

In bringing TVii to Europe Nintendo advises that it did not “anticipate such challenges”, but, “will always strive to develop a range of entertaining experiences for all our users to enjoy.” The newly launched Anime Channel on 3DS allows users to watch content on their handheld which Nintendo says is an example of it providing content for all users.

With the cancellation in Europe and no official announcement of the service coming to Australia, we’re willing to bet there is no hope at this point.
