Nier’s sequel officialy titled Nier Automata

Nier’s sequel has an official title and it’s Nier Automata. Revealed in the most recent issue of Famitsu (translation thanks to Gematsu), Nier Automata is in development at Platinum Games and will be published by Square Enix.

Set in the distant future, Nier Automata depicts the battle between mankind’s android unit Yorha and sentient machines. The earth of Nier Automata has been ravaged by war and Yorha carries a katana and a great sword. A ‘Pod’ support system will also enable ranged attacks.

Game Director Yoko Taro is currently involved with a live stage production titled YoRHa Ver 1.1 whose synopsis reads;

Yorha,” the distant future. Earth was invaded by machine life forms and humanity fled to the moon. On a defense base satellite orbiting the planet, Androids have been fighting the invadoers in place of humans.

During the 14th Drop Operation, the new-type android unit “Yorha” troop is attacked unexpectedly and only four remain (No. 2, No. 4, No. 16, and NO. 21).

The machine life forms charge at them, but they are saved by the older androids who survived on Earth, “Resistance.” The members of Yorha and Resistance join forces in a do-or-die battle against the machine life forms…

Sounds very similar to the information we’ve received about Nier Automata, so the two may be linked.

Nier Automata will be exclusive to PS4.
