A newly released hack for the 3DS allows the playing of region locked software on all non-New 3DS models of the handheld.
Named regionthree, it only allows you to bypass region locking on games, it doesn’t allow the playing of homebrew or pirated software.
The hack apparently exploits a security hole in the 3DS Download Play function, so I wouldn’t go out and grab all those US and Japanese 3DS games just yet, chances are Nintendo are already working on patching this out.
