Microsoft’s Internet Explorer replacement gets an edgy new name

Microsoft has got a name for their new Windows 10 browser, Microsoft Edge. Vale Internet Explorer, your (our) long suffering will soon end. Microsoft announced the name at their Build 2015 conference, IGN is reporting.

The browser was previously known by the code name Project Spartan, and Microsoft is saying it will “blue the lines between creation and consumption”. It may indeed change the way we browse, but I would just be happy with a functional, user friendly browser that preferably didn’t have a bigfoot sized memory footprint.

Integration with Reddit, Wikipedia and Windows 10 features such as Cortana were also confirmed. This is certainly more than just IE with a fresh coat of paint, and thank goodness as it would take more than that to remove years of stink from Microsoft’s web browsing brand. Will people take up The Edge? We will soon see.
