Major video game franchises set to appear on Apple TV

Apple’s media player and microconsole Apple TV is set to feature major video game franchises this year with both Activision and Disney pledging support.

Acitivision announced Guitar Hero: Live, Skylanders: Superchargers and Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved for Apple TV, with all three titles launching in Spring. Disney announced that its flagship toys-to-life franchise would appear on the device with Disney Infinity 3.0 debuting “later this year.”

Skylanders: Trap Team appeared on iOS devices when it launched last year and Superchargers follows suit. The title will ship with a Bluetooth portal, controller and a built in stand. Players will be able to play continuously across their Apple ID if they have multiple iOS devices with their progressed synced through Game Center. Trap Team’s portal and controller are compatible with Superchargers so those players who own last year’s title simply need to download Superchargers to play.

Guitar Hero Live will launch for Apple TV and other iOS devices and will include a special Bluetooth guitar controller. Geometry Wars was released for PC and consoles last year and is being brought to Apple TV and iPad Pro with a new online co-op mode that makes use of the Apple TV’s remote and the iPad’s Apple Pencil.

When Disney Infinty 3.0 launches for Apple TV it will be available as a special starter pack that includes the Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano toys, a new MFi controller and a bluetooth Infinity base. Disney promises more information about the Apple TV release soon.
