League of Legends Pro League coming to Oceania

Riot Games yesterday announced the 2015 format for competitive League of Legends in Oceania.

Riot will be introducing a three tiered system covering everyone from the seasoned Pros to the new teams looking to make a start in competitive League.

The Oceanic Pro League will be the highest tier of competitive play in Oceania. Beginning in February 2015, eight teams will face off each week in an LCS-style format. The four teams that played in the Oceanic Regional Finals at PAX Australia will automatically qualify for the OPL, with the other four spots yet to be filled.

The Oceanic Challenger Series will take place at the end of each OPL split, and will pit the top eight teams from the Oceanic Open Ladder against each other. The top three teams from the OCS will then compete against the bottom three OPL teams in a Promotion/Relegation series, with the winners qualifying for the next split of OPL.

Finally the Oceanic Open Ladder is a series of tournaments open to players of any skill level. The OOL will be made up of weekly online tournaments where teams can win prizes and accrue points with the eventual aim of progressing into the OCS.

You can find Riot’s own nifty infographic right here, plus local Rioter Benji answers a bunch of questions in the comments beneath. More information on the OOL will surface soon, so get your team together and get ready for some League action.
