Free-to-play Pokémon game releasing in Japan this June

To coincide with the release of Pokémon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction in Japan this July, The Pokémon Company has announced — translated by Siliconera — a free-to-play Pokémon game for 3DS.

The Thieves and the 1,000 Pokémon will be available on the 3DS eShop between 5 June and 30 September and uses the 3DS’ StreetPass function to find and collect Pokémon and use them in battles against hundreds of other Pokémon at the one time.

The villains in the game are characters from the upcoming film. The trailer above reveals that those who play the game and then take their 3DS to the cinema to see the movie will receive a special reward as will those who own Pokémon X & Y.
