Fiscal 2015 will be a year of aggressive investment for Sony, PlayStation

During a financial call for Japanese investors and analysts, Sony’s Chief Financial Officer Kenichiro Yoshida announced a lower operating income forecast for fiscal 2015 for the Game & Network division when compared with 2014.

Yoshida revealed that this is due to Sony “aggressively investing” in its gaming arm in 2015 much like it did in the previous year. The plan is to “grow the PlayStation Network into an entertainment network service platform with a meaningful presence.” The PlayStation Network currently ‘touches’ 65 million users while PlayStation Plus subscription numbers top 10 million.

Investing in PS4, Sony hopes to expand the install base even further and increase PlayStation Plus subscription numbers. In addition, investment will be made in first party software developers, entertainment content and apps. Yoshida revealed that “there are some projects to be announced” but no timeframe was revealed.
