The Final Fantasy series has been awarded three new positions in the Guinness World Records, officially becoming the “Most prolific role playing game series”. Final Fantasy earned such a prestigious title with 87 games released, as of 15 February 2017.
Final Fantasy XIV, the MMORPG, also bagged two awards. It’s recognised as having the “Longest end credits in an MMO game”, at 1 hour and 38 minutes. The movie-length credits are found in the 2013 re-release Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. As well as the development and publishing staff, the credits include the names of everyone who played the original 2010 version — and that takes a long time.
Final Fantasy XIV is also in the record books for the “Most original pieces of music in a videogame”. It features 384 seperate pieces of music, all originally recorded for the game. Of those, 280 can be heard in the base game, while 2015’s Heavensward expansion adds another 104 tracks.
