Fallout 4: All the details from Bethesda’s press conference

Today at Bethesda’s E3 press conference, the publisher detailed Fallout 4.

As you’d expect, work on the game began almost immediately after Fallout 3.

As part of the game’s official announcement, myriad of concept art for the title was shown, with Bethesda wanting to highlight their attention to detail.

It was also confirmed that Fallout 4 begins in a pre-nuclear apocalypse Boston, launching the character creation screen as your protagonist stands before a mirror, preparing himself (or herself) for a day of work.

More in-game footage was shown, and frankly looked amazing. No smudgy fur as far as the eye could see.

Your protagonist has a Mr. Handy named Cotsworth, and together with his or her heterosexual partner, has a child.

While specifics weren’t given, your character emerges as the sole survivor of Vault 111, 200 years after the nuclear apocalypse.

Bethesda also said player-freedom was paramount in their open world title.

Your trusty sidekick, Dog, was also shown, as was the ability to issue him with commands.

V.A.T.S. and S.P.E.C.I.A.L., of course, were also shown in the gameplay demo.

The game’s dynamic nature means things like conversations can be done in first- or third-person.

New to the title is the ability to design and grow your own settlement, creating buildings and rearranging anything you’d like in real-time. The protagonist was shown constructing his shelter, a power grid and a turrent using said electricity.

Turrets are important, as your settlements will be attacked by Raiders.

Settlements can be built all over Boston’s wasteland.

A crafting system will let you build things like weapon scopes using all of the scraps you collect in-game. There are over 50 base weapons and over 700 mods for said weapons in the game.

Power Armor can also be modified.

The protagonist was also shown calling in air support, then entering an aircraft to attack enemies with a mini-gun.

A new version of the trusty Pip-boy was also shown off, and rather comically considering the launch of the iWatch. Interactions with the Pip-boy were made to be jovial, and it can even play games. You know, in the game.

The game’s special edition will come with a real-life Pip-boy that will house your real-life phone. A Pip-boy app can be downloaded so you can use your real Pip-boy in place of the in-game one. The app will be available on iOS and Android.

A new app called Fallout Shelter was also announced, available after Bethesda’s press conference.

Fallout 4 will be available on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4 from 10 November.
