Esports Results: IEM San Jose 2014

The Intel Extreme Masters at San Jose, California took place this weekend playing  host to tournaments for both Starcraft 2 and League of Legends. Top teams and players from around the world fought it out for a share of the $75,ooo prize pool.

The League of Legends bracket saw a mix of fresh talent and veterans facing off for a place at IEM Katowice next year. Newly qualified European LCS team Unicorns of Love put in a surprise showing over the weekend by defeating current North American LCS champions Team Solo Mid 2 – 0. This put them up against Cloud 9 in a best of five final for  $25, 000 and the spot at IEM Katowice. Cloud 9 then proceeded to make short work of UoL taking them down 3 – 0.

Both the C9 – UoL best of five final and the C9 – Alliance best of three semifinal are recommended viewing, but if you’ll watch just one game it should be this one.

The Starcraft 2 tournament was a much longer affair, with players battling through open and group stages to make their way to the playoffs. The final saw herO and Rain taking each other on in a best of seven Protoss vs Protoss match up.
