The Electronic Sports League (ESL) recently declared it has formed the World Esports Association (WESA) to act as a governing body for the increasingly popular Esports world.
Citing that standards are a bit all over the place at the moment, WESA says it will bring “structure, predictable schedules and transparency” to competitive gaming. WESA says will focus on items like balanced team promotion and revenue splits.
A player council will feature in WESA, while Esports teams will appoint two of the organisation’s five executive board members.
Eight current Esports teams are helping to found WESA: Fnatic, Natus Vincere, EnVyUs, Virtus.pro, G2 Esports, FaZe, MousEsports and Ninjas in Pyjamas. The ESL Pro League for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be the first to fall under WESA rules.
