EA to host a day-long conference next week on gaming and gay rights

We’ve previously reported that it’s great to be gay and work at EA, but the games publisher is taking the concept to a whole new level with the introduction of a conference next week to discuss gaming and gay rights.

Titled “The Full Spectrum”, the conference will be held on 7 March in New York and will dicuss the following:

  • The origin of homophobia in games;
  • The development of authentic LGBT characters and scenarios;
  • The difference between exclusive and inclusive language;
  • Creating and promoting inclusive work environments for LGBT employees in the digital entertainment industry.

EA also confirmed that the “event features members of the HRC, Ford Foundation and video game developers and professionals to discuss the leading issues facing equality in the video game industry” plus a”a fireside chat with NFL linebacker and Super Bowl Champion Brendon Ayanbadejo of the Baltimore Ravens to discuss the challenges in creating an inclusive culture and supporting the legalization of same-sex marriage despite harsh criticism and opposition.”

Man, I wish I was in New York next week. If you wish the same, don’t lose hope — a little birdy has told me that PAX AUS attendees could basically participate in a panel that’s going to have the same themes…
