EA, Respawn committed to Titanfall franchise, make no promises on Titanfall 3

Vince Zampella, Chief Executive of Respawn Entertainment, has eluded to the possibility (or should we say probability) of a third instalment in the Titanfall series.

When asked about another Titanfall game Zampella put on his marketing and publicity hat, saying, “We don’t know yet. The game is, critically, a huge success. We’re really happy with all the reviews and the positive sentiment. Sales, it’s too early to tell. We’d definitely like to tell more of the story and the universe. I think it’s pretty safe to assume that we’ll explore more of it” in an interview with Glixel.

Strangely, Zampella then deferred to EA Publicist Devin Bennett, saying, “EA might have announced more. Devin?”

His colleague responded with, “What we’ve said is we’re committed to the franchise.”

This appears to be in reference to EA’s investor Q&A meeting in which EA CFO Blake Jorgensen stated “[Titanfall] is something that we plan to be working with [Respawn] on for many, many years to come, and there’s huge opportunity inside of that franchise to continue to expand it.”

So either we can expect Titanfall 3 one day, or at least something new set an the Titanfall universe.

Reading between the lines, there’s something Respawn and/or EA don’t want to tell us just yet. While Zampella is correct in that Titanfall 2 was a critical success, there’s no question that the timing of it’s release between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare had an impact on sales at least in the short term, despite Respawn shrugging off the idea.

If we were placing bets, our money would be on a Titanfall 3 release in mid-2018.
