DeNA: All Nintendo smartphones titles currently in development are free-to-play

All of the games currently in development as part of the partnership between Nintendo and DeNA will be free-to-play, suggesting microtransactions will play a role.

The news comes from DeNA CEO Isao Moriyasu who revealed the information in an investor’s meeting (as reported by the Wall Street Journal). The first — and only — announced Nintendo smartphone title is Miitomowhich Nintendo is billing as a social/entertainment app rather than a full fledged game.

Nintendo and DeNA’s partnership will bring Nintendo IP to smartphones, but will not port existing titles. All Nintendo IP is being considered for smartphone titles however.
