CliffyB knows he’ll have to warm you up to the idea of free-to-play games

Free-to-play games have copped something of a bad wrap lately, and Cliffy B knows it. His next game, Lawbreakers, will employ a F2P model and Mr B talked about the difficulty of selling it to gamers in a recent interview with Game Informer.

“We’re still playing around with the monetization model. We want it to be positive,” he said. “A lot of core gamers hear free-to-play and it’s like feeding a child asparagus. There is a bad reputation to it and I get it.”

Despite that reputation several F2P games are incredibly successful — Dota 2 and League of Legends, for example — and Cliffy B admits that Bosskey are still playing around with how to implement the model.

“How you do free-to-play is unique for each product, and we want do to do it in a good way that makes gamers happy. We’re open to unique ideas for how we get this game to market.”

Can Cliffy B nail the F2P model? It looks like we’ll have to wait until late 2016 to find out.
