Chiefs tame the Dire Wolves in the League of Legends Oceanic Pro League Final

After months of competition, the League of Legends Oceanic Pro League Final has come and gone. A dramatic best of five series determined who would emerge victorious as the title holder of the first ever Oceanic Pro League.

The two teams — the Chiefs and the Dire Wolves — seemed evenly matched coming into the Final after both displaying strong season performances, but the Chiefs weren’t prepared to let anyone stand in their way. They ultimately crashed through the Dire Wolves, winning the series 3 – 0 and claiming their place as the best in Oceania.

The Chiefs Mid-Laner and captain Simon ‘Swiffer’ Papamarkos claimed MVP for his performance after leading his team to victory. “It feels absolutely amazing that we won last night,” he said. “I’m so proud of all the boys and that we were finally able to win the Oceania Final. I’ve been looking forward to a moment like this and getting the opportunity to travel to the International Wild Card since I joined the team in 2013. Now that has become a reality.”

“Dominant from the start, the Chiefs picked up exactly where they left off from the season and semifinal,” added Riot Games Oceania Shoutcaster Jake ‘Spawn’ Tiberi. “The 3-0 win ends what was nearly a flawless split and I cannot wait to see how this team, captained by MVP Swiffer, performs in Turkey.”

The next stop for the Chiefs is Istanbul, Turkey where they’ll be representing Oceania at the International Wild Card Invitationals. This runs from 21-25 April and will see the Chiefs competing against the best teams from Turkey, Russia, Japan, SEA, Brazil and Latin America. The Wild Card winner will join the top League of Legends teams from around the world at the Mid-Season Invitational later on in the year.

“It’s been awesome to watch the journey these teams have been on. Every team in the OPL has improved massively. We hope Chiefs now take their A-game to IWCI and show the world what Oceania is really made of,” said Daniel Ringland, Esports manager, Riot Games Oceania.
