Batgirl expansion for Arkham Knight wants to channel Arkham Asylum

Entertainment Weekly has the first storyline details about the upcoming Batman: Arkham Knight downloadable content. “Batgirl: A Matter of Family” will see Batgirl team up with Robin to save Commissioner Gordon, who has gotten himself kidnapped by the Joker and stashed in a theme park built on top of an oil rig.

Batgirl will be less focused on combat than her counterpart, complementing her reduced physical powers with hacking abilities that can be used to take down enemies and solve puzzles. The game is designed to channel the sense of place that the original Arkham Asylum had, with design producer Justin Vasquez calling it “A love letter to the original game” and describing their goal with the expansion as wanting to “recreate the feeling of being trapped in a bizarre and unique open environment playing a game of cat and mouse with the Joker.”

“Batgirl: A Matter of Family” will get the full Arkham treatment with side quests, collectibles and Easter eggs. It will be available 15 July for season pass holders and 22 July for the rest of us for $9.95.
