Aussie Matt Simmons wins the 2015 Nissan PlayStation GT Academy

The GT Academy is one of the more unique Esports events in gaming, if you could even call it that, as the world’s best Gran Turismo racers get to test how their virtual skills translate to real cars. In the case of Matt Simmons that is exceptionally well, and his reward is a spot in the Nissan Driver Development Program and a chance to race in the 2016 Dubai 24 Hours.

Simmons was one of six Australian drivers participating and emerged victorious from the field of 30 drivers with consistent performances throughout the week and in spite of mechanical failures robbing him of a likely podium finish in the eight-lap finale at Silverstone. He now moves to the UK and joins the Nissan team for intense training leading up to his debut at Dubai next January.
