Apple rejecting apps with guns in icons, screenshots

Apple is forcing developers to remove images of guns from their icons and screenshots, according to investigation by Pocket Gamer.

Several developers have reported that Apple has asked them to change icons and screenshots. The Editor’s Choice featured Tempo has had to pixelate guns in their screenshots and Team Chaos had to change the icon for their game Rooster Teeth vs Zombiens, which featured an NES Zapper.

While the Apple guidelines do contain rules that allows them to reject this content, they haven’t been enforced universally to this point. Games are required to adhere to the 4+ age rating for screenshots and app icons which means guns and violence are technically outlawed. It will be a mammoth job for Apple to retroactively enforce these rules, but it looks like new content will have to adhere to them.
