Amazon will be fully operational in Australia by the end of 2018

Retailer Amazon has confirmed it will be fully operational in Australia by the end of next year.

An Amazon representative has told Fairfax that it will “launch as many services and products as possible within Australia”, adding that our country is viewed as “attractive” by the retailer.

Australians will gain access to the Amazon online retail portal alongside Amazon Fresh, its online grocery delivery service, and the Amazon Prime fast shipping program. Brick-and-mortar shops like Amazon Go will not be a part of the initial rollout.

Amazon will “build physical grocery stores and launch Amazon Go only after Amazon has become more established in the country and analysis determines the market will support physical stores,” according to Amazon Global Logisitic’s Brittain Ladd.

“Australian consumers will embrace online grocery ordering and delivery from Amazon,” Ladd continued. “I believe Amazon’s retail store formats such as Amazon Fresh Pick Up or the multi-format store can be successful in Australia and south-east Asia.”
