500GB Xbox One gets a price drop in the US, Asia with announcement of new 1TB model

Microsoft has come out ahead of E3 and announced a new 1TB model of the Xbox One alongside an updated controller and a price drop for the regular 500GB model, confirming the new console and controller rumours of the past few weeks.

The new console will include 1TB of internal storage space, a new matte finish, the new Xbox One controller and a copy of Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

The new controller features a 3.5mm jack to allow players to plug a headset directly in. Players will have the option to “adjust headset volume, mic monitoring, and voice and game audio balance through the Settings menu” of the Xbox One console and wirelessly update the controller with Microsoft eliminating the need to update through a USB cable. Finally, the controller’s bumpers have been fine tuned for more precision while playing.

The new console will be available in the US and selected regions from 16 June, but what those regions are isn’t clear at this stage. It will cost $399 USD at launch while the new controller sold separately will retail for $64.99 USD and will be available in both black and a new black/silver combo dubbed the “Xbox One Special Edition Cover Forces Wireless Controller.”

In addition to the new console and controller, Microsoft also announced that the Xbox One’s 500GB would be getting a permanent price drop in the US, UK, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and India. The new price in the US is $349 USD, with a similar reduction expected in the other listed regions.

Launching alongside the new 1TB model of Xbox One is the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows which allows players to use an Xbox One controller with all Windows 10 PCs, tablets and laptops. Retailing for $24.99 USD or bundled with a controller for $79.95 USD, the adapter will be available in most regions where Xbox One is available.

Australian pricing on the 500GB console remains unchanged.
