2DS XL announced by Nintendo; like the 3DS XL but without 3D [UPDATE]

Update: Nintendo Australia has confirmed local availability. The handheld will be available in Australia from 15 June, priced at $199.95 AUD.

Original story: Nintendo has today announced the 2DS XL, a flip-screen handheld in the same vein as the 3DS XL, though without 3D.

The handheld will offer the same performance as the New 3DS XL, including an NFC reader to interact with amiibo.

There’s no word as yet on Australian availability.

Expect the 2DS XL in July. It retails in the USA for $149.99 USD.
