In-depth with Quantum Break: Here’s how live-action scenes work within the game

Remedy’s Sam Lake has outlined how interactive live-action sequences will fit in with Quantum Break and actual gameplay on Xbox One.

Interactive, live-action sequences will help form Quantum Break‘s story. Chapters of gameplay will end with a cliffhanger that Remedy calls a ‘junction point’; from there, the live-action sequences kick in.

“Both the game and the show ship on the same disc and are tied together in multiple ways that the player can affect with their choices,” Lake told Digital Spy.

The live-action sequences will revolve around the game’s villain, Monarch Solutions’ Paul Serene. In the sequences, the player will be able to select a one of many branching paths that the story can follow.

“You will be playing him – our equivalent of action movie scenes planning and making [Serene’s] moves, but interactive. You play that scene, you see those glimpses of the future, and you make a choice – that this is the future I want to become reality in my game.

“You make a choice, and it’s kind of an interactive player-generated cliffhanger at the end of the act. And then you watch an episode of the show and immediately you start seeing consequences of the choice that you make,” Lake said.

If not your cup of tea, the live-action portions of the game will be skippable.

Quantum Break heads to Xbox One in 2015.
