PlayStation Network: This trick should speed up your PS4 downloads in Australia

Update: A representative from Sony has responded to Stevivor’s queries.

“The Network bandwidth may differ depending on users network environment and more,” the representative said, essentially side-stepping the specific server McDonald has referenced.

“We are working diligently to provide comfortable PSN experience to users worldwide, and have nothing further in details to comment.”

Original story: Game developer extraordinaire Lance E. McDonald appears to have solved the mystery of perpetually slow PlayStation Network downloads on Australian PS4s.

It looks like a “sh*tty Sony server in Tokyo” — in Lance’s own words — is to blame. The trick? Block that server when you’re downloading content.

Google’s pretty handy when looking for instructions on blocking an IP address on your specific router (make and model).

We’ve tried it on both an add-on and full game download and it’s doing the trick for us.

It’s important to remember that you’ll need to unblock the server when your download is finished.

Lance is right in this respect too — the PlayStation Store was a nightmare with this server blocked.

We’ve asked Sony for comment.

Thanks heaps, Lance!
